Dissolve some salt in cold water and leave the solution (in bucket) in your house for 2 days to eliminate the smell. You can also substitute the salt with onions.
When you notice a bad smell from your kitchen, it is mostly likely to be generated by your trash can. For metal trash can, you may try the following method. Burn a piece of scrap paper inside the metal trash can. You can get rid of the smell after the complete burning of the piece of paper.
