Home Improvement is Where Your Heart Is

December 8th, 2011

I am not an expert when it comes to home repairs. In fact, whenever I try something as straightforward as replacing a light I customarily find myself causing more damage than Macauley Culkin in the movie Home Alone.

Home cleaning efforts end up with the local neighborhood being evacuated by copter. And do not even get me going on garden maintenance. Last time I attempted to mow the grass there were seven casualties and we found the garden gnome on the roof about a week later.

Straightforward stuff like pool maintenance used to cause large issues, partly due to my incapability to work out precisely which home re-building supplies or maintenance equipment I needed. Now and then this has led straight to me attempting plastering work with a teaspoon and knife rather than a trowel. Hey, they’re kind of the same shape, right?

So I have revealed that it’s far simpler and more affordable in the long run to find a person qualified in all those straightforward and not-so-easy home improvements, and I’m not talking about the television show with Tim Allen.

Electricians who can do building inspections or painters who do bricklaying services to take care of any trails or patios works out a lot better than trying to do it myself.

The problem is that it can be difficult to locate concreting services or horticulturists in my area. I mean, sure, even my eighty years old grandma can pave a driveway better than I can – but that doesn’t suggest I want to hire her just because I can’t find anybody else. Particularly not at the unreasonable rates she is charging.

Thankfully there are online directories to look for local services and contractors who are qualified and experienced in home maintenance and can handle any type or scale of job I need. In fact, if my home is my castle, there is no way I am letting anyone pull a unacceptable job patching up my walls. Sorry Gran. Not even you.
