As you can tell from the number of large home improvement stores that have cropped up all over, there are plenty of people out there who enjoy construction projects. Some enjoy relatively straightforward (yet extensive) jobs such as replacing a roof. Others may wish to update the home’s siding, while others may simply like a challenge. The projects are completed in order to increase the home’s value or to switch things around; whatever the reason, waste materials will result, and these must be taken away. Disposing of waste and cleaning up after a big home improvement project is part of the process.
Consider the job of roof replacement, for example. Worn out shingles, old nails, and an occasional section of rafters are discarded, and when tossed to the ground, you do not want them becoming hidden in the grass. This could prove disastrous to a future lawn mowing mission. A tarp placed under the location of the work being done is your best bet. It will collect the waste materials as they are tossed down and can then be rolled up and taken to a bin where the items are then disposed of. It is important to watch out for flowers and other vegetation while positioning the tarp and moving it about.
Oftentimes, bins are used to place the majority of the waste in. Once the job is done or the bin is full, it must be taken away. Some choose to hire a skip company that will provide the means to do so. Skips are carried to the worksite on the back of a truck and used to collect waste as it accrues. Once it fills up or the job is complete, the truck returns and the skip is hauled away. Sometimes, you may see large, steel bins that resemble a rail car on the side of the road. These are for projects that are sure to produce significant waste and take a somewhat longer time to finish.
Quite a few large home improvement projects will involve paint. Many people do not need reminding that large furniture and carpeting near the location of the paint job must be covered with plastic. Even with the utmost care, an occasional drop of paint will find its way to the carpet. If this happens, it may be blotted with warm water or trimmed away from the top of the carpet if no gouging will occur. If these methods do not work, a professional cleaner should be contacted.
It stands to reason that large home improvement projects will result in a significant amount of waste. As long as you adequately prepare, the cleanup is much less tedious. Simply lay down tarp, obtain a waste bin, or cover objects in plastic, depending on the task. Taking care at the beginning of the project will save time at the end.
