Four Thoughts On Carpet Buying

July 17th, 2011

It’s hard to believe! After years of ripping out carpet and in the hopes of discovering hardwood floor, carpeting is making a comeback. Which many are taking as the perfect excuse to have fun with floor covering again. Add to that the fact that people are not moving as often and you can see why decorating with carpet is new all over again. But exactly what do you know about buying carpet?

Any interior designer worth their sample boards will tell you that you’re not looking to carpet to be the focus of the room even though the right color can change the look of a dramatically. Instead the idea is for carpeting to be more like background music. It fills a role but it’s more of a supporting role to help draw attention to whatever furniture and other decorating touches you’ve included.

That said, some are finding that going bold with carpet color adds to an interesting touch to the room at times.

Smart carpet shoppers also have to settle on the type of fiber. Anymore, most carpet sold today is nylon or some kind of a synthetic blend. Nylon is recommended because it’s the easiest to clean. Wool is easily the most expensive and it’s the type of carpeting that is easiest to be permanently stained by the errant spill or pet accident.

You shouldn’t just rush out and buy wall to wall carpeting without first pondering a few other things. Like how many people live in the house. Do you have pets? How does your family use the room you are looking to re carpet? Is it high traffic or not? What is your budget for carpet?

Not surprising, if you have a lot of polished hardwood floor space you might consider buying area rugs. That might be rag rugs, Oriental carpeting, or better quality needlepoint rugs. And the nice thing is these are often so affordable you can change the color of the carpeting without investing a ton of money to make that happen.

Truth is, there is a vast array of styles, colors and qualities when it comes to carpet. How well your carpet will hold up is determined by the type of fiber you buy, the quality of padding, plus how well the carpet is installed. And let’s not forget how often you vacuum. Keep those things in mind and hopefully we’ll be able to color you ecstatic before too long because of the plush new carpet gracing the floors of your home.

Keeping hard wood flooring or carpet looking great depends on a great vacuum. You can read Dyson vacuum reviews about specific Dyson models. Many find making the right brand choice easier after reading the user-friendly vacuum cleaner reviews found at AskTheVacuumGuy.com.
